Cuivre! Horn Choir started in March of 2013 when Ken Mackie approached John Gottschalk with the idea of starting a French Horn Choir to teach up and coming hornists in the local school bands, as well as provide an opportunity for older hornists to get together and play horn music of all styles and periods. John, being a hornist himself, liked the idea and the two started rehearsing in John’s music store in downtown Merced, California.

Word got out, and soon others joined. Each rehearsal started with a mini-lesson in horn playing, followed by playing music written or arranged for horns. After a few months the group was ready for their first performance, a half-hour concert in Gottschalk’s Music Center during Merced’s Art Hop on October 19, 2013.

The rest is history in the making.
